Grants of $5,000 to Canada individual artists, collectives, and nonprofit organizations to develop, produce, and present works in the field of jazz. First-time applicants must contact program staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to support the creation, production, and dissemination of new jazz works and to help promote the influence of artists working and living in Montreal. One of the grants is specifically intended for emerging talent.

By way of example, the following projects qualify:

  • CD recording;
  • Composition of work;
  • Creation and public presentation of a show.

In addition, CD recording projects could qualify for up to 32 hours of studio time at Studio Crawford. Assistance with mixing may also be provided.

The work must be realized and/or disseminated within 18 months following receipt of the grant.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Individual artists, collectives of artists and non-profit organizations dedicated to the creation and production of jazz works are eligible to apply.

One of the grants will be awarded to emerging talent (an artist under 40 years of age, or a collective or non-profit organization that has existed or been incorporated for less than 7 years).

Status of artists:
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident ;
- Be a resident of the Montreal metropolitan region (Laval, Longueuil, Montréal and the northern and southern suburban areas).

i. members must all be professional artists as defined by the Conseil;
ii. Have realized at least one artistic work in a professional capacity.

Specific conditions of eligibility for collectives:

i. Be represented by a project head;
ii. Consist of a group of artists, regardless of their number;
iii. Be two-thirds Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada : no more than one-third of collective members may reside outside Canada;
iv. Consist of artists all of whom live in the Montreal metropolitan region (Laval, Longueuil, Montréal and the northern and southern suburban areas).

i. Members must all be professional artists as defined by the Conseil ;
ii. Have realized at least one artistic work in a professional capacity.

Specific conditions for organizations:

i. Have held non-profit incorporated status (NPO) ;
ii. Have its head office on the island of Montreal ;
iii. Have a board of directors composed primarily of Canadian citizens or landed immigrants residing in Canada ;
iv. Have adopted artistic creation and production as its primary mission.

Not eligible:
- Artists or collectives or organizations that do not meet the general eligibility criteria;
- Organizations working in the field of variety;
- Artists’ collectives that are incorporated as for-profit or non-profit organizations or registered as general or limited partnerships;
- Public bodies and parapublic bodies representing governments and municipal corporations;
- Organizations dedicated to teaching, education and professional training;
- Artists’ agencie.
