Grants to North Carolina nonprofit organizations, governmental and educational institutions, and congregations in eligible areas for projects that improve the lives of local residents. Priority will be given to requests for programs and projects that address education and human services. Eligible programs benefit the residents of Cleveland County.

Human Services:

  • People in crisis obtain emergency food, shelter, and/or relief of immediate needs to stabilize a situation
  • Families achieve financial stability
  • People overcome life obstacles and become productive members of society.

Education: The Board is especially interested in proposals focused on financial literacy for adults and youth, youth mentoring, and character development programs.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants must be awarded to eligible organizations including 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, congregations, governmental, and educational institutions for projects that will serve the residents of Cleveland County, North Carolina.

If the organization conducting the project does not meet these criteria, you can apply for a grant under the fiscal sponsorship of an eligible organization.

Typical funding restrictions include:
- Capital campaign requests
- Debt retirement/deficit funding
- Direct support of individuals (e.g. scholarships, hardship)
- Duplication of existing programs or services by new organizations
- Endowment funds
- Travel and conferences
- Publication of books
- Projects that are typically the funding responsibility of federal, state or local government
- Projects that promote political or religious views
- Political or lobbying activities
- Sponsorships or fundraisers

Pre-Application Information:

The Cleveland County Community Foundation's grant cycle will open June 3, 2020. Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, June 28, 2020 at 12:00 PM (EST).

Award and decline notifications will be made via email in September 2020.
