Request a Grant Writer

Award of $1,000 to a USA library in a rural area to recognize outstanding service to a community that has a below average income level. The award may be given for a specific program that achieved specific results or for an overall service program.

The award honors a public library for all or any of the following:
- Uniqueness of service of program
- Impact of program or service on community
- How the service or program will affect the future of the library and its community

Number of Grants:

Only one library shall receive this annual award. No award shall be given if applicants do not meet the award criteria.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Winner will receive a plaque and a $1,000 cash award from EBSCO Information Services.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The award is given to a public library serving a population of 10,000 or less with an upper per capita income limit of not more than the 75th quartile of the national average that demonstrates excellence of service to its community as exemplified by an overall service program or a special program of significant accomplishment. Individual branch libraries of a library system are not eligible to apply.

Pre-Application Information:

The deadline to apply for PLA 2018 Service Awards and Grants is December 4, 2017 at 11:59 PM Central.

The jury shall review the candidates and select a winner at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. Announcement shall be made at that time. The award shall be presented at the PLA President’s Program during the ALA Annual Conference.

The nomination describing what this public library has done to meet the criteria for the award with supporting documentation and attachments should be submitted through the online application. Include a description of the library and its community.
