Grant Description

Grants to Alberta qualified donees to address community needs in eligible regions. Areas of interest include Coronavirus (COVID-19) recovery, community wellness, the environment, economy, and supporting Indigenous communities. Funding is intended to benefit communities in MD Bighorn (including Benchlands, Lac des Arcs, Deadman’s Flats, Exshaw, Harvie Heights); Stoney Nakoda Reserve (including Morley); Kananaskis ID; Town of Canmore; Town of Banff; and ID 9 (including Lake Louise).

2023 BCCF Priority Areas:

These priority areas reflect the most current interpretation of community needs based on Vital Signs research and insights from the Foundation's ongoing work, i.e., from Moving Mountains Initiative findings, community relationships, and Program Committee discussion. See Vital Signs pdf in Supporting Documents, below. 

For 2022-2023 the Priority areas are:

  • Support Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission; advance equity and inclusion to strengthen relationships between Indigenous people and settlers; create opportunities to increase Indigenous cultural awareness and learning throughout the Bow Valley.
  • Support initiatives that enhance affordability for people who live and work in the Bow Valley; foster a sustainable, locally owned, diverse, inclusive, and resilient economy.
  • Support protection and restoration of the natural environment, with a focus on community action to address climate change and reduce emissions.
  • Foster community wellness and safety through support of essential social services, housing and food security, and mental health initiatives; ensure a healthy community and protection of vulnerable people.

Eligibility:

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Priority will be given to those projects that serve the following geographic region:
MD Bighorn (including Benchlands, Lac des Arcs, Deadman’s Flats, Exshaw, Harvie Heights); Stoney Nakoda Reserve (including Morley); Kananaskis ID; Town of Canmore; Town of Banff; and ID 9 (including Lake Louise).

Applicants must be a “qualified donee” or partnered with a qualified donnee organization as defined under the Income Tax Act – see the Canada Revenue Agency website CRA Charities Listing or contact Elizabeth for more information.

Ineligible:

Community Grants Policy outlines the following restrictions:
- Grants are not given to support annual fundraising campaigns, form letter requests or telephone campaigns.
- Grants are not made to religious organizations for direct religious activities.
- Grants are not made for team support or sponsorship.
- Grants are not made for capital deficits

Pre-Application Information:

Deadline is Friday, January 27, 2023 by midnight.

Time Line:
- Grant application deadline is January 27, 2023
- Granting decisions are made in February 2023
- Successful applicants will receive funds by March 31, 2023 and have 15 months to complete a project
- Grant reports due by June 30, 2024. A template is available on request.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Most of the applications are between 1K and 8K, however there are some possibilities for larger amounts depending on the proposal. Please call ahead to discuss if your request is 10K or above.

Term of Contract:

Successful applicants will receive funds by March 31, 2023 and have 15 months to complete a project.
