Grants of up to $7,000 to USA medical and nursing students, resident physicians, and junior faculty, in partnership with a non-profit, to pilot programs that teach trainees to recognize and avoid overuse, build more meaningful relationships with patients, and provide ethical, compassionate care. Grants are available to cover project expenses, conference travel, and participation in a national leadership training.

Funds will support new and existing projects, as well as participation in leadership training and a learning network focused on transforming medical education and the culture of health care. Administrative management costs must be limited to 5% of the award amount.

Funds available:

-Up to $2,000 for project expenses, including meeting expenses, communications/marketing, operations, and equipment
-Up to $1,000 for travel expenses to participate in the Leadership Training in Boston, MA on November 14 – 15, 2014.
-Up to $1,500 for travel expenses to participate in the 2015 Lown Conference, March 8 – 11, 2015.
-Up to $2,500 for meeting registration and travel expenses to a clinical conference or meeting (specified by each grantee) to present project work.

The focus of this program is the United States; programs involving other countries will be considered only to the extent they directly inform medical education practices and policy in the U.S.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The program is open to students enrolled in clinical degree programs, residents and fellows, and junior faculty.

Applicants must identify a partner – either a university or public charity that is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code – to manage the grant funds.

Applicant organizations must be based in the United States or its territories at the time of application.

Grantees will be required to attend a Leadership Training for grant recipients in Boston, MA on November 14 – 15, at 3:00 PM ET.
