California Retirement Management Account (CARMA)
Grants to California nonprofit organizations to promote the wellbeing of Thoroughbred horses after they have been retired from their racing careers. This program assists farms and facilities with basic needs and supports programs that place retired horses in homes and second careers.
CARMA provides support for hay and feed, health and veterinary costs, general farm upkeep and more. CARMA also funds capital improvement projects, and education and awareness initiatives on a case by case basis.
While CARMA wishes every need could be addressed, it is realistic about what it takes to provide a quality retirement environment for former face stars, and therefore has earmarked these funds for horses that have raced at participating track facilities in California.
GrantWatch ID#: 146055
CARMA only grants funds to 501c3 nonprofit charities designated by the Internal Revenue Service.
The completed application and all supporting materials should be submitted to CARMA no later than September 7, 2018.
The grant application will help determine the best way to financially address your needs - please be as thorough as possible. CARMA will also be scheduling site visits following the application period. This will give staff a chance to meet you, your volunteers and staff, and visit your facilities first hand.
