Grants to North Carolina nonprofit organizations, congregations, governmental agencies, and educational institutions in eligible areas for programs that address community needs and improve the lives of local residents. Funding is intended to strengthen communities in Union County.

Priority will be given to requests for projects and programs that support:

  1. Broad charitable purposes
  2. Professional development for Union County public school teachers
  3. The mentally disadvantaged or physically handicapped as a result of visual or hearing impairments

Investment areas include:

  • Animal Welfare
  • Arts and Culture
  • Education: K-12
  • Education: Higher Education and Workforce Development
  • Environment
  • Health
  • Housing
  • Human Services

Term of Contract:

Grants are one year in duration.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants must be awarded to eligible organizations including 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, congregations, governmental and educational institutions for projects that will serve the residents of Union County, NC. If the organization conducting the project is not an eligible organization, a grant can be applied for under the fiscal sponsorship of an eligible organization.

The following areas do not fall within Union County Community Foundation’s current funding priorities:
- Capital campaign requests
- Debt retirement/deficit funding or expenses incurred prior to grant award decisions
- Direct support of individuals (e.g. scholarships, hardship)
- Duplication of existing programs or services
- Endowment funds
- Travel and conferences
- Publication of books
- Projects that are typically the funding responsibility of federal, state or local government
- Projects that promote political or religious views
- Political or lobbying activities
-Sponsorships or fundraisers

Pre-Application Information:

Applications for this grant program are only accepted online using the Foundation For The Carolinas' online grant portal. Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, August 28, 2020, at 12:00 p.m. Please note: The online grant application system closes promptly at noon and will not accept any late submissions.

Award and decline notifications will be made via email in October.
