Grants to Union County, North Carolina nonprofit organizations, congregations, governmental agencies, and educational institutions for programs that address community needs and improve the lives of local residents. Eligible organizations are expected to address one of the following target areas:

A. Broad charitable purposes
B. Professional development for Union County public school teachers
C. The mentally disadvantaged or physically handicapped as a result of visual or hearing impairments

Estimated Size of Grant:

For reference purposes, in 2017, the Union County Community Foundation awarded grants that ranged from $1,000 to $15,000.

Term of Contract:

Grants are one year in duration.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants must be awarded to eligible organizations including 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, congregations, governmental and educational institutions for projects that will serve the residents of Union County, NC. If the organization conducting the project is not an eligible organization, a grant can be applied for under the fiscal sponsorship of an eligible organization.

The following areas do not fall within Union County Community Foundation’s current funding priorities:
-Capital campaign requests
-Debt retirement/deficit funding or expenses incurred prior to grant award decisions
-Direct support of individuals (e.g. scholarships, hardship)
-Duplication of existing programs or services
-Endowment funds
-General operating support
-Travel and conferences
-Publication of books
-Projects that are typically the funding responsibility of federal, state or local government
-Projects that promote political or religious views
-Political or lobbying activities
-Sponsorships or fundraisers

Applications for this grant program are only accepted online using the Foundation For The Carolinas' online grant portal. Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, August 17, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Please note: The online grant application system closes promptly at noon and will not accept any late submissions.
