Grants of up to $300 to Arkansas K-12 public and private schools for field trips to wetlands and waterfowl habitats. The funding source will help coordinate a hands-on, interactive field trip to a local wildlife refuge where students will learn from a wildlife biologist. Topics covered include waterfowl identification, waterfowl habitat, and for older students, habitat management. Funding will be used towards transportation and lunches.

Waterfowl Field Experience locations for each grant awarded will be based on distance from the school. Waterfowl Field Experiences are designed for a maximum of 100 students per school.

Funding requests must focus first on transporting students to the Waterfowl Field Experience site. These expenses may include fuel for school buses, driver fees, and bus use fees. If this does not deplete the grant, funds may also be used to purchase lunch supplies for students and chaperones (bread, sandwich meat, chips, drinks, etc.).

If this still does not deplete the grant, art supplies suitable for use in creating entries for the Junior Duck Stamp (JDS) Art Contest may be purchased, including, but not limited to, 9x12 drawing paper, colored pencils, color pastels, charcoals, paints, and other non-reusable supplies.

Up to $300

Field trips take place during the 2016 - 2017 academic year. Preferred dates should be from Nov. 21, 2016 – Feb 24, 2017 .

Public and private schools in Arkansas may apply through school personnel. Applications must be submitted by the teacher who will be the Field Experience Trip Leader.

Ineligible costs include teaching materials, books (with the exception of field guides), website development, land acquisition, computers, long-term classroom supplies (tables, easels, storage containers, etc.), substitute teachers, salaries or other payroll-related expenses.

The Waterfowl Field Experience is designed for a maximum of 100 students per group. If you have a group larger than 100, contact program staff prior to applying.
