Grants to Iowa agencies, non-profits, schools, and others for equipment necessary to operate shooting ranges open to the public for recreation. Eligible applicants must own or have a 25-year lease for the range and nearby properties affected by the range. Awardees must make the range available to state and local agencies, archery programs and SCTP program activities.

Examples of eligible shooting range projects:
- Range Equipment
- Trap Machines
- Voice Activated release systems
- Clay target automation systems
- Automated Target / Retrieval Systems
- Steel Targets (For Scholastic Pistol Program)
- Range Furniture (benches, scoring chairs)
- Gun Racks
- Bow Racks
- Archery Targets (static, Olympic, 3D)
- Automated User Check‐in/Reporting System

There is no maximum request amount.

Term of Contract:

Funding awarded through equipment grants must be spent by June 30, 2015. (This may be a limitation for some items such as bunker trap machines which require overseas shipment.)

  • Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS
  • Private institutions of higher education
  • Private Schools
  • Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
  • Public Schools

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Iowa-based shooting sports organizations
City park and recreation agencies
County Conservation Boards

* Applicants must be in compliance with rules and regulations from prior grants.
* Applicants must have liability insurance unless not required by law.
* The range property and any impacted adjacent lands (i.e. clay target shot fall zones) must be owned by the Applicant or in a long‐term lease of 25 years or more with the option to renew.
