Grant Description
Awards to Texas school principals, teachers, counselors, schools, districts, and school boards in recognition of exceptional devotion and service to students. The awards are intended to honor the commitment of educators to students and local communities throughout the state. Through the award program, H-E-B pays tribute to community leadership and outstanding educators who are an inspiration to others.

Teacher Award: This honor is designed to recognize teachers and is based on the following criteria:

  • Passion and commitment to the teaching profession
  • Innovation and creativity in the classroom
  • Professional growth and development

Principal Award: This honor is designed to recognize principals and is based on the following criteria:

  • Leadership and campus culture
  • Instructional leadership and management
  • Communication and community relations

School Counselor Award: This honor is designed to recognize school counselors and is based on the following criteria:

  • Provides a safe, supportive, and caring environment for all students, using the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling programs.
  • Coordinates counseling services to assist students with problems and concerns.
  • Exhibits professionalism and school counseling leadership that positively impacts student outcomes.

School District Award: This honor is designed to recognize school districts and is based on the following criteria:

  • Commitment to student achievement through innovative programs
  • Parent/Community Involvement
  • Professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators

School Board/Leadership Award: This honor is designed to recognize school boards that have demonstrated real leadership in the community that it serves based on three basic criteria:

  • Academic/student progress within the district
  • Identification of community needs and specific actions taken based on those needs
  • New and creative methods for community engagement

Early Childhood Award: The Early Childhood Award is designed to support public or private schools that focus on the care and education of children under the age of five. The purpose of the award is to offer support to help create or enhance Kinder Readiness programs that prepare children to enter Kindergarten socially and academically ready to learn.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
All applicants must be located within the state of Texas.

Teacher Eligibility:
- Public classroom teachers - grades Pre-K through 12.
- Special area teachers performing instructional support services with students.
- Team teachers are eligible to apply with the understanding that all monetary awards will be equally divided.
- Each member of the team should complete the biographical information on the form and submit a resume.
- Essays may be jointly submitted.
- All applicants will be judged based on total years of experience in the classroom regardless of location.
- Teachers who have been previously selected as statewide winners are not eligible to reapply until they have entered a new award category based on years of experience.
- Teachers who have been chosen as a statewide finalist must wait at least one year before re-applying.

Principal Eligibility:
- Active Public School Principal with a minimum of three years of experience as a campus-level principal; and a minimum of two consecutive years on the same campus.
- The public school district must be currently located in Texas.
- Proven community leader.
- Current TASSP and TEPSA Statewide officers are not eligible.
- Principals who have been previously selected as a statewide winner are not eligible to reapply.

District Eligibility:
- All public school districts currently located within Texas are eligible to apply.
- Districts who have been chosen as statewide finalists must wait at least one year before re-applying.

School Board/Leadership Eligibility:
- All public school boards currently located within Texas are eligible to apply.
- School boards that have been chosen as statewide finalists must wait at least one year before reapplying.
- School boards that have previously been selected as statewide winners are not eligible to reapply.

School Counselor Eligibility:
- Active Public School Counselors with a minimum of three years of experience; and a minimum of two consecutive years on the same campus
- The public school district must be currently located in Texas
- Certified School Counselor from the Texas Education Agency
- Counselors who have been previously selected as a statewide winner are not eligible to reapply

Early Childhood Eligibility:
- Eligible institutions include all public schools or private schools working with children under the age of five, who are currently located within Texas.

Deadline: December 4, 2023, at 11:59 PM CST (Midnight)

Estimated Size of Grant
If a school board is selected to receive a special judges award, they can receive up to $25,000 in the form of a grant to the school district they represent.
