Grants to Washington nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and convention bureaus for projects that will increase tourism and overnight stays in eligible regions. Funding is provided for the operation of tourism-related facilities, operations and marketing for festivals and special events, and tourism marketing in Mount Vernon.

Tourism Goals: 

  • Increase hotel occupancy in Mount Vernon by creating overnight stays
  • Increase overnight stays during the off-season
  • Provide visitor attractions and/or promote the area’s existing attractions
  • Attract more businesses to Mount Vernon and thereby generate additional business for hotels and motels

All applications must include estimates of how funding the activity will result in increases of people staying overnight, traveling 50 miles or more, or coming from another state or country.

Lodging taxes can be used for Marketing and Operations including:

  • Tourism marketing;
  • Marketing and operations of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists;
  • Operations of tourism-related facilities owned or operated by nonprofit organizations and
  • Operations and capital expenditures of tourism related facilities owned by the City of Mount Vernon.

Each year the City of Mount Vernon allocates Lodging Tax Funds to eligible non-profit, convention/visitor bureaus and government agencies.
