Grants to South Carolina nonprofit organizations, businesses, and government agencies in eligible areas for a broad range of projects and events that promote local tourism. Funding is intended to support activities that attract tourists to the area and/or provide for tourists. Eligible programs generate and promote tourism in Georgetown County.
Eligible tourism-related expenditures include the following:
Advertising and promotion of tourism so as to develop and increase tourist attendance through the generation of publicity.
Promotion of the arts and cultural events.
Construction, maintenance, and operation of facilities for civic and cultural activities including construction and maintenance of access and other nearby roads and utilities for the facilities.
The criminal justice system, law enforcement, fire protection, solid waste collection, and health facilities when required to serve tourists and tourist facilities. This is based on the estimated percentage of costs directly attributed to tourists.
Public facilities such as restrooms, dressing rooms, parks, and parking lots.
Applicants may indicate the following categories on the application form:
- Not-for-Profit organization registered with the Secretary of South Carolina
- Eleemosynary organization established under IRS Code 501(c) 3,4,5,6,7,10
- Other Not-for-Profit organization
- Government or governmental agency
- For-Profit organization
Speculative events or projects, where other funding sources have not been identified, are not looked upon favorably.
Pre-Application Information
The 2023 Accommodations Tax Grant application period will open at 8:30am on Monday, August 14 and will close promptly at 5:00pm on Friday, September 29.
Funding generally is provided to award recipients, upon request, in advance of their event or project; however, funds should not be requested more than thirty (30) days prior to when they are actually needed for expenditure. In some cases, funds may be awarded only on a reimbursement basis. Such a stipulation will be at the discretion of the ATAX Advisory Committee and County Council based on the facts and circumstances of the particular applicant and event or project proposed.
Term of Contract
Due to time restrictions placed on use of ATAX funds, proposed events or projects must be “ready-to-go” if funding is awarded.
