Grants, scholarships, and other prizes to USA and territories teams of three to four middle school students working with an adult coach to identify a problem in their community and to apply the scientific method to create an innovative solution to that problem.

Eight finalist teams and their coaches will receive an all-expense-paid trip to attend a national week-long program and compete for $2,000 scholarships for each team member and the $25,000 Columbus Foundation Community Grant, plus a $200 development grant to further refine their idea.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Team Rules:
- Each team must have three or four student team members and a coach.
- All team participants must be enrolled in the sixth, seventh, or eighth grade in the USA, its territories, or possessions during the 2014-2015 school year.
- Team members must be students in good academic and behavioral standing.
- Team members are limited to participating on one team project per year.
- Children of senior managers of the sponsoring organization (the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation), contractors, officers, employees who have participated in the development of the competition, and judges are not eligible to be team members.

Who can be a coach:
- Anyone over the age of 18 years old.
- Teachers, parents or guardians, youth organization leaders, business people, and community members are eligible to participate.

Estimated Size of Grant:

(A) An all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World® to attend National Championship Week;

(B) $200 for the development of the National Championship Week competition presentation;

(C) $2,000 scholarships for each of the two Gold Medal winning teams' members; and

(D) $25,000 Columbus Foundation Community Grant for the finalist team.
