Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $5,000 to California K-12 educational institutions and nonprofit organizations for educational initiatives or projects that benefit children, teenagers, or the community in Santa Clara County. Eligible costs include books, supplies, materials or other things that will enhance the proposed project.

Application scoring criteria:

  • Identifies and serves a need that promotes the greatest impact to those it serves
  • Benefits the majority of the population it serves
  • Supplements an existing need that further enhances performance, availability and accessibility
  • Provides a cost-effective project design.

Estimated Size of Grant:

This year the maximum amount per grant is $5,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible applicants are:
-Educational institutions and organizations (elementary, middle and high schools) located in the 95118, 95120 or 95123 zip code areas.
-Non-profit organizations that are tax exempt under IRS 501(c)(3), which are located in Santa Clara County. Applications from organizations outside Santa Clara County, who directly impact the San Jose community will also be considered.

Only one grant per year may be awarded to an educational institution/organization or non-profit organization.

Salaries for a new position or to supplement an existing position may not be used for these funds.

Pre-Application Information:

-For 2019, applicants may apply for a grant between October 15 and November 30.
-Applications must be postmarked by by November 30th to be reviewed for eligibility.
-Applications are reviewed by the Funds Disbursement Committee in November.
-Award notifications are mailed to grant recipients in December.
