Grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 to Alexandria, Virginia nonprofit organizations to strengthen leadership and encourage nonprofit excellence. An LOI is due October 23, 2017. Funding is intended for infrastructure-based programs and organizational needs.

Funding is focused on requests for the following areas from the Performance Imperative framework (see link in Pre-Application Information for more details):

- Strategic Planning
- Pillar 1 – Courageous, Adaptive Executive and Board Leadership (board coaching, development, governance, recruitment, training, succession planning, etc.)
- Pillar 4 – Financial Health and Sustainability (fund development planning)

ACT is interested in creating cohorts of learning communities based on each funding priority so organizations can learn from one another and ACT can share these best practices with other nonprofits and the donor community.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Organizations may apply for grants of up to $15,000. The range for proposals is typically $5,000 - $15,000, with the average grant award being $10,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

ACT can only accept applications from organizations that have already received tax exemption status from the IRS. Groups with a fiscal sponsor arrangement may apply for funding.

Pre-Application Information:

ACT will be awarding $75,000 in grant funding for 2017. The funding will be divided between the two grant cycles – spring and fall.

Fall Timeline:

- October 2 – Letter of Inquiry (LOI) Application is available
- October 23 – LOI Deadline
- October 26 – Organizations will receive invitation to submit a Full Proposal
- November 16 – Full Proposal Deadline
- December 15 – Notification of Funding

Note: Applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM on deadline days.

Your organization can only receive one grant award per calendar year. If your organization applies for funding in the Spring, but does not receive a grant, your organization is eligible to apply for a different (or revised) request in the fall.

Along with an award letter and report guidelines, the first installment of the grant award will be presented to the organization at a board meeting, date to be scheduled with ACT and the organization within 45 days.
