Grants of up to $5,000 to California nonprofit organizations for services and programs to improve the quality of life of residents in eligible regions. Funding is intended to support programs related to human services such as homeless support services, crisis intervention, child daycare, services for senior citizens, drug abuse prevention, services for special needs populations, health and safety, and youth-serving agencies. Eligible programs are those that benefit residents of the City of Mission Viejo.

Grants are limited to $5,000 per agency, unless modified by City Council.

Term of Contract:

Community Service Funds will be awarded in June 2021 for the program cycle beginning July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2022.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All community not-for-profit organizations meeting the requirements and guidelines specified in the City Council's Community Services Funding Policy may apply for funds.

Funds will not be allocated to:
a) political action committees, political candidates, or political campaigns;
b) any organization conducting a religious activity;
c) organizations conducting a fund-raising event or activity;
d) for the rental of Mission Viejo City facilities; and
e) for school district programs and/or projects. Grad night funding is exempt from this funding process.

Funding requested from membership based adult organizations will not be considered if the funds requested are to be used to directly benefit its members and not the community at large.

Funding requested from youth sports groups will be considered only if the request is to support the youth sports group in a regional, state, or national competition, but not for travel out of the country, and provided that the requesting group is predominately composed of Mission Viejo residents.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are due Monday, March 1, 2021 5:00 pm. Funding will be dispersed no later than June 30, 2021.

The Recreation and Community Services Commissions reviews all applicants at two public meetings, generally scheduled in March and April. The Commission forwards their recommendations to the City Council for funding consideration. Final funding decisions are made by City Council in early or late June.
