Grants to Texas nonprofit organizations in eligible locations for healthcare programs that benefit underserved populations. Priority funding is intended for programs related to mental health, and proposals will be considered for activities targeting child and adolescent mental health issues through education, identification/screening, and treatment. Eligible organizations serve the greater Houston area: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, and Waller counties.

The purpose of the program is to promote the development of new approaches to healthcare delivery, particularly for underserved populations and individuals in underserved areas of the community. Grants will be awarded to agencies seeking any of the following:

  1. Development of early intervention strategies
  2. Enhancement of existing programs
  3. Expansion of existing programs

Number of Grants:

The selection committee anticipates awarding four or five grants for 2021.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grant requests of approximately $50,000 will be considered.

Term of Contract:

Grant funds will be distributed in January 2021 and must be utilized in 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations must meet the following criteria to apply for grants:
- Be an established public charity exempt from taxation under IRS section 501(c)(3);
- Be an established organization with a demonstrated record of sound program and financial operations; and
- Be an established organization serving the greater Houston community (defined as one or more of the following counties: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery and Waller).

The Foundation does not fund agency deficits or general administrative overhead. Grants will not be made to supporting organizations. Only one program proposal will be accepted from any single organization.

Grant funds may not be used in any manner that involves liability for the Foundation; to benefit any Foundation director or his/her family; to purchase land or for construction; to establish or sustain a foundation, trust, or permanent interest-bearing account; or to carry on propaganda or other attempt to influence legislation.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications must be submitted on or before 5:00 p.m., on July 15, 2020.

The Foundation will begin accepting applications for the YR2021 grants in June 2020.

The selection committee may invite organizations submitting a proposal for a presentation and/or a site visit. Grant awards will be announced in December 2020. Grant funds will be distributed in January 2021.
