Grants of up to $6,000 to California nonprofit arts organizations in eligible areas to develop and strengthen organizational infrastructure. Funding is intended to provide arts programming and technical assistance to develop audiences, fundraise, and build creative capacity. Applicants must be able to demonstrate commitment to and involvement with the West Hollywood community, including a presentation somewhere within the City of West Hollywood or immediately adjacent (within 5 blocks of the border of West Hollywood).

The City of West Hollywood and Grantees in the Organizational Development Grant category can expect to:

  • Engage residents and visitors with the arts; expand arts audiences.
  • Recognize and champion local cultural resources; discover and explore new places for artmaking.
  • Provide a variety of quality arts programming that is financially and geographically accessible for the residents of West Hollywood; increase access to arts experiences.
  • Increase revenues for local businesses; support business partnerships.
  • Facilitate a relationship with an experienced consultant to provide specific professional and business development activities that will aid in building its capacity, strengthening its infrastructure, and/or extending the reach of its programming activities.
  • Gain or maintain a competitive edge for a variety of arts grant opportunities.

The proposed project should be 1 (one) presentation per year, as opposed to a series of projects over an extended period.

Estimated Total Program Funding:

$12,000

Estimated Size of Grant:

- $6,000: Maximum award per organization each calendar year
- 50% of award will go to a consultant for the organization from the City of West Hollywood's prequalified list of consultants.
- 50% of award must go to arts program presented in the City of West Hollywood.

Term of Contract:

The organization will be awarded a three-year contract.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

This grant is intended for newer, smaller and/or less-experienced non-profits, or established nonprofits undergoing organizational transitions, with budgets generally under $100,000 and primarily volunteer run.

To be eligible for consideration, organizations must satisfy all the following requirements:
1. The primary mission of the organization must be the production and/or public presentation of one or more disciplines of the arts. This includes, but is not limited to, performing arts, literary arts, multi-media, and/or visual arts.
2. Organizations must be able to demonstrate commitment to and involvement with the West Hollywood community, including a presentation (art exhibit, performance or screening) somewhere within the City of West Hollywood or immediately adjacent (within 5 blocks of the border of West Hollywood) within the funded period.
3. Organizations must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage a contract with an outside consultant, provide a scope of work, a timeline for deliverables, and a method for evaluation.
4. Organizations must be non-profit, based in LA County, and must submit an online application by the application deadline.

Applicants are not eligible if they:
- Are an individual artist.
- Have an annual budget over $100,000.
- Are already receiving funding in another grant category in 2022.
- Are already receiving funding from another City Division or Department, are co-sponsored by a City Council office.
- Are a City of West Hollywood elected or appointed officials, an employee and their immediate family members are not eligible to apply.
- Proposed an art project that is a fundraiser, capital campaign, mural, or religious-based programs/event.

- Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 10 AM (PT)
- Monday, May 10, 2021 at 1 PM (PT)
- Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 7 PM (PT)

- Thursday, July 1, 2021: Application deadline
- July 28, 2021: Peer review of grant applications
- August 12, 2021: Performing Arts and Cultural Affairs Subcommittee make funding recommendations
- August 26, 2021: Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission consider approval of funding recommendations
- September 2021: City Council considers approval of funding recommendations
- September 2021 – November 2021: Grant recipient notifications, administration of grant award contracts, and mandatory orientation
- January 2022: Earliest award of grant funds

Applicants may only apply to one grant category. Applicants may only receive funding from one grant category each calendar year.
