Award of $50,000 to a Canada individual to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of cancer treatment, therapies, and patient care. This award is intended for an individual with an academic appointment who has made an impact on the clinical application of scientific discovery in the fight against cancer.

Among the criteria that will be considered is a distinguished record of translating scientific discoveries into clinical applications, forging partnerships with scientists and others to foster cancer research or to implement discoveries, and cultivating future leaders in the field.

The prize is awarded with the expectation that the recipient will continue to make outstanding contributions in the future, since this is not a lifetime achievement award.

The prize will be awarded annually. The value of the prize will be re-evaluated every third year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for a Prize, a nominee must be a Canadian citizen holding an academic appointment in good standing, be active and productive in his or her career, and must have made outstanding contributions to the treatment, amelioration, or development of therapies for cancer.

Ineligible Candidates:
- Those who have previously received a Dr. Chew Wei MBBS Memorial Prize in Cancer Research at any time. No individual may be awarded the prize more than once.
- Members of the Selection Review Committee may not be awarded the prize during their term as members.
- Institutions or Associations are not eligible to be nominated.

Pre-Application Information:

Deadline: February 28, 2020.

Nominees must be nominated by an expert in their field. Self-nominations will not be accepted. Nomination packages must be in English.

The nominations of eligible candidates may be considered for up to three years. Nominators are required to submit the nominee’s updated curriculum vitae by the predetermined deadline for reconsideration.

The Faculty of Medicine will notify the prize recipient and thier nominator by telephone or email. The Faculty of Medicine will notify all remaining nominators of the results by email.
