Grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 to British Columbia, Canada non-profit organizations in the cultural and creative arts for new programs and projects, and to visual and performing arts students who are studying the arts at a pre-professional level anywhere in the world at an institution that is recognized as a leader in the chosen field of study.

Organizations ($5,000 - $15,000)

1) Cultural and Creative Arts: Eligible disciplines include the visual arts, theatre, music, dance, festivals, heritage organizations, community arts councils, arts education, media arts, and libraries, particularly in smaller communities.

2) Social Services: Eligible disciplines include families and youth, early childhood education, at-risk youth, the disabled, seniors, and neighborhood houses.

Individuals ($5,000 - $10,000)

1) The Leon and Thea Koerner Award in the Fine and Performing Arts: Since 1955 over eight hundred students have received funding for pre-professional studies in such disciplines as ballet, music, conducting, dramaturge, modern dance, creative writing, fine arts, and theatre.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Organizations: $5,000 - $15,000; Individuals: $5,000 - $10,000.

Term of Contract:

Individuals - Funds will be used during the 2015/2016 academic year; Organizations - Funding is available only for projects that are still in progress on 1 July 2015, or that begin on or after 1 July 2015.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations:

-Grants can be made only to organizations or institutions from British Columbia that are designated as “charitable” by the Canada Revenue Agency; and that are in possession of a business number/registration number in good standing as of the date of the application.

-Only one application per year from a single organization will be accepted.

-Organizations that received a grant in 2014 are ineligible for funding consideration for this year’s intake.

-The Foundation will consider applications only from organizations in British Columbia whose primary purpose is the production and/or delivery of the cultural and creative arts or the social services.

-In the Cultural and Creative Arts, preference is given to projects involving at least some professional artists.

-The Foundation typically does not fund projects submitted by organizations that are primarily focused on sports or environmental causes.

Not Funded:
-Ongoing programs and/or projects
-Capital campaigns or major capital expenditures such as building construction and renovation
-Routine operating costs
-Organizational planning and associated studies (e.g. feasibility and marketing studies, market and audience research, strategic planning, etc.)
-Operational deficit reduction
-Scholarships and/or bursaries
-Third party grants
-Organizing conferences

Award in the Fine and Performing Arts (Individuals):

-The award is available to full-time students who are in their last two years of professional training or education or in graduate professional training.

-The professional training or education must be at an institution that is recognized as a leader in the chosen area of study.

-The program of study must be in the performing and/or visual arts.

-Canadian citizens or have permanent resident (formerly landed immigrant) status in Canada able to provide a Canadian social insurance number residents of British Columbia, as demonstrated by the province in which the applicant filed an income tax return for the most recent calendar year.
