Grants to California local government agencies to promote boating safety and support water-based law enforcement activities. Funding is intended to support only local safety programs and for the administration of local laws. Applications are invited from agencies with a need for boating safety and law enforcement equipment.

Examples of Allowable Marine Patrol Enforcement Equipment:

  • Law Enforcement Patrol Boats 
  • Marine Patrol Equipment 
  • Personal Watercraft (PWC) 
  • Search and Rescue Equipment 
  • Dive Gear 
  • Engines, repowers and replacements

Estimated Size of Grant:

Up to 100% of eligible costs, based on the portion of time the equipment will be used for boating safety and enforcement activities.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible applicants are local government agencies who can demonstrate a need for boating safety and law enforcement equipment pursuant to the application assessment criteria.

Pre-proposal Conference:

DBW is hosting a 2-hour applicant workshop on Thursday April 2 from 10 am – 12 pm to provide an overview of the new grant application and scoring criteria/matrix and recommendations for writing a competitive application.

The workshop may be accessed both in person at DBW’s headquarters at 1 Capitol Mall #500, Sacramento, and via teleconference for those who would like to attend remotely. The workshop will also be recorded and available for those unable to attend the live presentation.
