Merit awards to San Francisco County, California PreK-12 public school teachers for dedication, professionalism, creativity and other traits of educational excellence. The purpose of the program is to celebrate and acknowledge the extraordinary teachers in the San Francisco Unified School District.

The Mayor and Superintendent of San Francisco Unified School District will announce five teacher winners, two from the Elementary School level (K-5) and one from each of the following levels: PreK (early education), Middle School (6-8 grade), and High School (9-12 grade).

Awardees receive a monetary award, an engraved trophy from Tiffany & Co., and a gift basket full of prizes from sponsors. Past prizes have included tickets to museums or attractions in San Francisco, gift cards from local companies, laptops and other electronics, and flight vouchers.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

In order to be eligible, a teacher must have:
- Full time tenure at a San Francisco Unified School District site
- At least 5 years of teaching experience in the San Francisco Unified School District
- An exemplary history of successes and evaluations
