Grant Description
Grants of up to $20,000 to South Carolina nonprofit organizations for health and wellness programs and projects in eligible counties. Applicants must submit a letter of intent prior to submitting a full proposal. Priority will be given to projects that expand access to healthcare for Upstate residents. Funding is intended to benefit Spartanburg County, Cherokee County, and Union County.

Spartanburg Regional Foundation offers grant funding to programs that are clearly health-related and fall within the service area(s) of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. While the Foundation is primarily a healthcare system foundation, funds are available to community organizations committed to the health and wellness needs of Upstate residents.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Spartanburg Regional Foundation considers only those organizations that are recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit and/or tax-exempt entities. Funded organizations must not discriminate based on age, race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, religious belief, or physical ability.

Limitations
Spartanburg Regional Foundation does not generally provide funding for:
1. Endowments
2. Annual operating support including operating expenses of existing programs
3. Organizations outside of Spartanburg Regional service area(s)
4. Grants to individuals
5. Loans
6. Grant proposals without a Letter of Intent (LOI) and invitation to apply
7. Multi-year requests
8. Recurring requests for the same purpose as a grantee’s current grant
9. Fundraising events, celebrations, dinners
10. Retroactive expenses/activities
11. Vehicles, including SUV’s
12. K-12 public or private school, charter school, community/junior college, state/private college or university. Separate 501(c)3 organizations established to support a school should contact the Foundation prior to submission to determine project eligibility.

Pre-Application Information
2023 Grant Cycle
- Jan 9th: The grant portal will open for submissions on January 9th, 2023
- Feb 3rd: Letters of intent will be due on February 3rd, 2023 by 5:00pm EST
Late LOIs will not be accepted
- Feb 17th: The grant committee and staff will review LOIs to determine semi-finalists
Semi-finalists notified February 17th
- Feb 20th: Community applicants who advance will be invited to submit a full application
Applications will open February 20th
- Mar 17th: Grant applications are due in the portal March 17th by 5:00pm EST
Late submissions will NOT be accepted
- May 18-19: After the board meets, grantees will be notified the Thursday and Friday after
Awards are to be kept confidential until the official grant award ceremony
- May 24th: A Grant Award Ceremony breakfast to celebrate our grantees will be held in the Palmetto Room of the Piedmont Club

Grant Process
Application to the Spartanburg Regional Foundation is a two-stage process:
1. Letter-of-Intent -- January 9th – February 3rd, 2023
2. Followed by full application – February 20th – March 17th 2023 (by invitation-only based on approval of your LOI). Submitting a full application does not guarantee funding.

Estimated Size of Grant
Hospital grant requests have no minimum amount; however, community requests should not exceed $20,000.

Term of Contract
The grant project must be completed within the 12-month grant period. The Foundation grant year begins July 3rd, 2023 and ends June 28th, 2024.
