Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $5,000 to Washington individuals, business owners, and community groups for projects to enhance the environment and increase environmental stewardship in eligible regions. Funding is intended for projects that demonstrate a measurable and tangible public benefit to the environment and community. Projects must benefit the City of Shoreline.

Projects with the following attributes are preferred:

  • Project addresses one of the following priority areas of focus:
    • Work Towards a Zero Waste Shoreline
    • Support Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
    • Protect Our Natural Environment
  • New grant recipient (organization has not previously received funding from this program)
  • New project (project was not previously funded by this program)
  • Project features an active partnership with a Shoreline organization (community organization, school, neighborhood association, business, etc.)

Examples of past projects include:

  • Removing invasive plants in a park and restoring the area with native plants
  • Offering a free environmental movie night to Shoreline residents
  • Creating a group to recycle large items from elderly members of the community, when they call
  • Expanding a recycling program at a school
  • Creating a community garden at a multi-family property

Up to $5,000

Term of Contract:

Projects must be completed within calendar year funds are awarded.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are made to individuals, community groups, and business owners.

Pre-Application Information:

In 2020, grant applications must be received by March 6, 2020, at midnight.

Applications will be reviewed by City staff, and all applicants will be notified of grant awards no later than March 31, 2020.

Matching funds or volunteer hours are required for at least 20% of eligible project expenses.
