Grants ranging from $3,000 to $6,000 to Virginia nonprofit organizations for early childhood development programs in the cities of Roanoke and Salem, and Roanoke County. Funding is intended for activities that will address a wide range of children's needs from the prenatal stage until the age of 5 by:
- Helping to link existing resources with those most in need;
- Serving as a catalyst for the creation of new resources;
- Educating and promoting understanding of the tremendous importance of this time in children's lives; and
- Building healthy lives and productive citizens from the start.
Grantees should demonstrate:
- A well-planned approach to important public issues;
- A base of other support (financial, participatory and voluntary)
- Efficient use of community resources; involvement of underserved constituencies
- Coordination, cooperation and sharing among nonprofit organizations and elimination of project duplication
