Awards of $5,000 to USA health and mental health organizations and programs to recognize outstanding efforts to improve the quality of mental health care for minorities. The purpose of the award program is to acknowledge excellence and innovation in the field of minority mental health services.

These awards are intended to honor those who have undertaken innovative and supportive efforts to:

  • Raise awareness in underserved minority communities about mental illness including the need for early recognition, access to and the availability of treatment, and the cultural barriers to treatment.
  • Increase access to quality mental health services for underserved minorities.
  • Improve the quality of care for underserved minorities, particularly those in the public health system or with severe mental illness.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Health and mental health program and organizations that have addressed minority mental health are eligible to apply.

Past award recipients are ineligible, unless applying for recognition of a new initiative, achievement, or program.

Mental health programs and organizations must have been in operation for at least two years before the application deadline (this includes new initiatives for past recipients).

Pre-Application Information:

The application deadline is February 1, 2020, 11:59 PM (Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time).

Recipients will be notified in March 2020. The awards will be presented in Philadelphia during APA's Annual Meeting in April 2020.
