Awards of $5,000 to USA psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, health professionals, mental health programs, and community organizations for excellence in efforts to improve the quality of mental health care for minorities.

These awards are intended to honor those who have undertaken innovative and supportive efforts to:

- Raise awareness in underserved minority communities about mental illness including the need for early recognition, access to and the availability of treatment, and the cultural barriers to treatment.
- Increase access to quality mental health services for underserved minorities.
- Improve the quality of care for underserved minorities, particularly those in the public health system or with severe mental illness.

Recipients of the Awards for Advancing Minority Mental Health will receive an award check in the amount of $5,000, a plaque acknowledging their receipt of this award, and recognition in Foundation and APA publications and websites. In addition, award recipients and their programs will be recognized at a Foundation event during the APA Annual Meeting in San Diego.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Health and mental health professionals, mental health programs and organizations, and others which have addressed minority mental health as outlined above. Psychiatrists and other health professionals must be licensed and/or accredited in the state in which you/they practice.

Past award recipients are ineligible, unless applying for recognition of a new initiative, achievement, or program. Mental health programs and organizations must have been in operation for at least two years before the application deadline (this includes new initiatives for past recipients).

Pre-Application Information:

Applications must be received by January 19, 2018.

Recipients will be notified in March 2018. The awards will be presented in New York City during the APA's Annual Meeting.
