Grants to Maryland nonprofit organizations, government agencies, IHEs, and religious institutions in eligible locations to support local arts programming. Funding is intended to support the general operations of arts organizations, as well as community programs that provide arts experiences to residents and visitors. Eligible disciplines include folk and traditional arts, literary arts, media arts, performing arts, and visual arts. Eligible applicants are located in Harford County.

Grant Categories:

  • Arts Programming Grant: Nonprofit Organizations whose primary purpose is other than producing or presenting the arts (examples include community centers, churches, non-art museums, libraries, universities) may request Arts Programming grants to support Arts Programming in Harford County benefiting Harford County residents and guests. 
  • Community Arts Development General Operating Grant: General Operating Grants may be requested by Nonprofit Arts Organizations.  

Harford County Cultural Arts Board considers applications and awards grant funding on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. Artistic merit
  2. Organizational effectiveness
  3. Service to the community
  4. Current and past adherence to grant guidelines
  5. Size of organization

Term of Contract:

Grant-funded activities must occur within the funding period of July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Arts organizations located in Harford County that have been both incorporated in Maryland as not-for-profit and received tax exempt status from the U. S. Internal Revenue Service may request support for day-to-day operating expenses.

Other nonprofits which are both incorporated in Maryland as not-for-profit and designated with tax exempt status from the U. S. Internal Revenue Service may receive support for direct costs of arts programming benefiting the residents and guests of Harford County, Maryland.

Units of government, colleges or universities, and religious institutions are also eligible for support for arts programming benefitting the residents and guests of Harford County, Maryland.

All programming of organizations must be open to the public and accessible to persons with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Grants may not be used towards capital projects, major equipment purchases, retirement of existing debt, re-granting funds, scholarships, pro-rated staffing, or travel outside Maryland. Programming may not be a fund-raising activity.

Organizations must show valid sources to match grant funds with revenue from sources other than an agency of the state of Maryland or in-kind services or goods. Grants must be matched at a minimum of 2:1 for general operating support and 1:1 for direct costs of arts programming.
