Grants starting at $20,000 to Illinois nonprofit organizations to promote the health and wellness of children and families within the state. Letters of Intent are due February 2. Proposals are invited for programs that engage communities in adopting healthier behaviors in at least of the following areas: nutrition, safe environments, disease management and prevention, and physical activity.

Healthy Kids, Healthy Families grants focus on promoting the health and wellness of families and communities, spanning all ages, from children to seniors. Studies show that family and community support can positively impact one’s physical and emotional well-being and reinforce healthy behaviors that maintain good health.

Grants in these areas are for 1 year only.

Funding begins July 1, 2018 and ends June 30, 2019.

Funding will occur annually and receiving funding this year will not disqualify you from being considered for funding for the remaining year of the initiative and the Foundation encourages you to apply again.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All organizations must meet the following criteria to be considered for a grant from BCBSIL:
-Services provided in the state of Illinois
-Incorporated as a not-for-profit organization and has been delivering services for at least 1 year at the time of application submission
-Established as a 501(c)3 and in compliance with federal and state regulations and requirements
-Operates under a non-discrimination policy
-Governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors in which Board members are not compensated for service

Not Funded:
-Organizations that do not meet basic eligibility criteria
-Organizations that discriminate based on race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status
-Grants to individuals
-Programs that are exclusively arts and culture
-Political campaigns or exclusively religious activities
-Government agencies
-Capital campaigns

Pre-Application Information:

BCBSIL grant application is a two-step application process that begins with a Letter of Intent (LOI). Organizations interested in submitting a proposal for a grant must first submit a LOI. After the LOI review, if your request meets BCBSIL’s funding interests and criteria, your organization will be invited to submit a full proposal.

Full application proposals will be by invitation only; the Foundation will not accept unsolicited full grant applications.

All applications will be deactivated at 5:00 PM CST on the last day of the grant cycle. Please plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to complete the application and ensure that you are able to access the login page with ease.

The FY19 grant application process begins January 15, 2018 and will follow the timeline below.

-January 15: Letter of Intent opens
-February 2: LOI closes
-Week of March 12: All LOI applicants notified; invitation-only full application opens
-April 6: Full application closes
-Mid-June: Applicants notified of funding decisions
-July 1: Funding begins (all grants are 1 year, funding ends June 30, 2019)
