Grants to Grant County, New Mexico nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and IHEs to provide direct services to local communities. Applicants must submit an LOI prior to submitting a full application. Program areas include economic development, education, health and wellness, leadership and capacity building, and environment.

The programs and projects the Foundation supports are designed or selected for their ability to increase individual’s capacity; creating a stronger community that is less dependent on a single industry or business and more economically diverse and sustainable.

The investment seeks to support community projects that address an identified opportunity or obstacle to development and long-term viability in the following areas:

  • Education
  • Economic Development
  • Leadership and Capacity Building
  • Health and Wellness
  • Environment

Preference will be given to projects that address the following outcomes:

  • Increase placement in local skilled jobs
  • Increase educational attainment
  • Increase the number of businesses attracted, retained and expanded

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be a federally recognized 501c3, unit of government or college/university providing direct service in Grant County, NM.

Budgets must be larger than $10,000.

- September 1, 2019: Request for Proposal Process Opens
- October 31, 2019: Letter of Interest and Alignment Due
- December 8, 2019: Notification of Application Invitation
- January 26, 2020: Application Due
- April 1, 2020: Grant Recipients Notified/Announced
- April 2021: Impact Report Due

A separate cash or in-kind investment equal to at least 10% of the proposed program budget is highly encouraged. Applicants that can leverage 25% or greater cash or in-kind match will receive additional /priority consideration (via a weighted score in the scoring rubric that will be used).

Through this Request for Proposals (RFP), the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation invites eligible organizations to apply for funding. The process will be conducted in two phases:
- Phase I: A letter of interest and alignment (LOI) to describe the proposed project.
- Phase II: Full application (by invitation after Phase I) to fully describe the project including an assessment or evidence of need, specific program activities, implementation timeline, budget, evaluation, etc.

Invited applicants will be provided a link to the online application to submit a full proposal through the Foundation’s online grants management system.
