Award of $30,000 to a Manitoba professional artist or arts administrator to recognize artistic excellence and distinguished career achievement. Nominators are strongly recommended to first consult with program staff. Nominees may be involved with any art form. Artists must have made a significant contribution to the Manitoba arts community to be eligible for this award.

The Manitoba Arts Award of Distinction recognizes the highest level of artistic excellence and distinguished career achievement by professional Manitoba artists or arts administrators in any art form. The $30,000 Award is presented biennially by the Manitoba Arts Council as part of its commitment to recognize and support professional artists in Manitoba.

Nominators must demonstrate the artist’s achievement and the significant and ongoing contribution made to the Manitoba arts community.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Artists meeting the following criteria are eligible:
- Currently practicing at the highest level of excellence
- Made a significant contribution to the Manitoba arts community
- Achieved national or international recognition for their work
- Never previously received the award
- Resided in Manitoba for the 12 months immediately prior to nomination
- Spent a majority of their artistic career in Manitoba
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada

Pre-Application Information:

The next deadline is December 15, 2017.

A consultation with the Program Consultant prior to preparing an application is strongly recommended.

A multidisciplinary peer assessment panel will review the nominations. The principal criteria of assessment will be the artistic excellence of the candidate’s work and the candidate’s contribution to the development of the arts in Manitoba.
