Grants to Michigan government agencies, and nonprofit organizations and clubs for maintenance, development, and preservation activities related to publicly used paths. Funding is intended to create or maintain paths, routes, and facilities used by off-road vehicles and open to the public, and to preserve and restore nearby publicly-owned natural resources affected by ORV use.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Maximum allowable is up to 100 percent of cost, not to exceed the actual grant allocation.

ORV Trail and ORV Route Maintenance Reimbursement Rates:
Trails: $36.50/mile
Routes: $27.50/mile

ORV Trail and Route Grading Reimbursement Rates:
ORV Trails: $131/mile

Term of Contract:

Grants are issued for an entire fiscal year, October 1 through September 30.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Government agencies and nonprofit, incorporated clubs and organizations are eligible for these grants. Individuals are not eligible.

Pre-Application Information:

Application Process:
- Grant applications and information on applying for grants are available in early spring.
- Grant applications with required documents are due to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources by May 1.
- The Department reviews applications and selects projects to be funded.
- Grant agreements are issued to sponsors in late fall for the upcoming ORV season.
- The time period from grant application to grant award is approximately five months.
