Grants of up to $5,000, grants of up to $15,000, and grants of up to $20,000 to Ontario professional dance artists, groups and nonprofit organizations for the creation of original dance presentations. Funding is intended for the production, presentation and development of dance by professional artists who are Ontario residents.

There are four grant categories:

  • Development of new dance work(s): to help cover only the initial artistic costs of creating new dance work, including the development of choreography for dance film/video and work for young audiences. There must be an in-studio or virtual presentation of the work or work-in-progress.
  • Production and presentation of dance: to help cover artistic, production and presentation costs, including co-productions, commissions, tour preparation (including rehearsal costs), remounting or acquiring dance work(s) and work for young audiences.
  • Dance series/festivals: to help cover the presentation and promotion costs of professional choreographers and dance companies.
  • Dance sector development initiatives: to help cover the costs of activities and initiatives that benefit Ontario’s professional dance sector at large. This includes professional development workshop series, dance training initiatives, conferences and other activities with an impact on the dance community. Projects cannot be related to creation, production or presentation activities. Professional development workshop series and dance training initiatives must include registration fees.

This program funds

  • Artists’ fees (choreographers, dancers, outside eye/elder/dramaturge, composers, musicians, theatrical designers and technicians)
  • Production costs (costumes, scenery and other staging requirements)
  • Marketing, promotion, audience development activities and administration costs
  • Venue or studio rental
  • Archival recording
  • Child care and other dependant care fees (this does not include regular, ongoing expenses)
  • Expenses related to making the project accessible to audiences and project participants (other than the applicant) who are Deaf or have a disability
