Grants to Humboldt County, California nonprofit organizations, individuals, public schools, government agencies, and Indian Tribal governments for projects and programs that benefit local communities. Funding is intended for activities in the focus areas of arts and culture, education, companion animal and rescue, natural environment, education, senior opportunities, and Southern Humboldt.

Grant categories:

  • Education Grants are available to schools and other organizations supporting educational programs and projects in Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, and Curry counties. 
  • Animal Grants support organizations and programs in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties that care for companion animals, including prevention of animal cruelty, spay and neuter services, food and shelter, and more. 
  • Senior Support Grants provide funding for programs and projects that benefit senior citizens of Humboldt County.
  • Environmental grants support projects concerning the natural environment.
  • Art Grants support performers, quilters, writers, and other artists. Individuals may apply for the Victor Thomas Jacoby Award. This Award is available to all artists and craftspeople of Humboldt County, and  supports and encourages the exploration of new ideas, materials, techniques, mediums, images, etc., as well as excellence. Artists may nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else. Artists must be residents of Humboldt County.
  • Senior Support Grants provide funding for programs and projects that benefit senior citizens of Humboldt County.
  • Southern Humboldt Grants: Together, the Monroe Tobin Family Fund and the John & Barbara Francek Memorial Fund support charitable works in Southern Humboldt.

The Victor Thomas Jacoby Fund will support three awards.

Victor Thomas Jacoby Award: $10,000

The total amount to be awarded for Southern Humboldt Grants is $21,790.

Term of Contract:

Typically grants must be claimed by August 31 of the following year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible organizations:
- A nonprofit organization with tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- A public benefit organization (public schools, government agencies, Indian Tribal Governments)
- A community group with a qualified fiscal sponsor who meets 1 or 2 above.

The Victor Thomas Jacoby Award is given according to the following cycle:
- 2019: All artists and craftspeople of Humboldt County
- 2020:All artists and craftspeople of Humboldt County
- 2021: Artists and craftspeople within the City of Eureka

Art Grants: Organizations and individual applicants can apply.

Education Grants are available to schools and other organizations supporting educational programs and projects in Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, and Curry counties.

Animal Grants support organizations and programs in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are due by 11:59 PM on Friday, November 1, 2019.

Applicants will be notified of their application status by January 1, 2020.
