Awards to Nebraska K-12 teachers and school counselors in eligible locations to recognize outstanding commitment to public school students. The awards are intended to honor teachers for exceptional dedication to their profession. Nominees must have at least two years of experience and be certified to teach in Omaha.

The Buffett Foundation established the Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Awards to honor the vital role that teachers play in society. The Foundation believes that the position of the great teacher in molding children and young adults is too often diminished. The Award seeks to reward teachers who:

  • Instill in students a desire to learn and achieve;
  • Understand the individual needs of students and encourage their talents;
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of their individual subject matter; and
  • Possess the ability to share it effectively with students.
