Description:

Request a Grant Writer

In-kind support to Ohio neighborhood associations in Alliance, Canton, and Massillon to participate in training programs that aim to promote the participation of residents in making effective decisions about their neighborhood.

Funding is intended to support emerging and established leaders through a leadership development process and to contribute to the quality of life in their neighborhoods by assisting in the planning and implementation of neighborhood improvement strategies. Emphasis is placed on capacity building and the identification of neighborhood assets.

Program Objectives
- To build upon the neighborhood leader’s experience
- To encourage and assist in the establishment of networks among neighborhoods, their leaders and their institutions
- To broaden the participant’s understanding of the community at large
- To enhance the ability of neighborhood residents to resolve problems on their own or in cooperation with other neighborhood groups and institutions

From the History of Neighborhoods, to Conflict Resolution, to Neighborhood Goal Setting, the classroom sessions will offer you knowledge about issues and resources that affect your neighborhood. Additional leadership skills and new contacts will assist you in furthering your neighborhood and personal goals. You will also receive a certificate honoring your completion of the program. Upon graduation, you will become a part of the growing network of neighborhood leaders, the Neighborhood Leadership Council, which meets on a monthly basis to exchange information about their neighborhood activities, exchange ideas and networks.

Marilyn Thomas Jones, Director of Community Engagement, trains participants from Alliance, Canton, and Massillon. Training sessions are from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. and are held once a month for four months. Each class participant is required to attend all of the training sessions in order to graduate and receive the benefits provided to program graduates.
