Grants of up to $25,000 per year to Michigan nonprofits for the research, development, and evaluation of new efforts to address health care issues.

Applications are reviewed by the following criteria:
- Project sustainability
- Potential for replication
- Significance and risk-level of the target population
- Level of impact on Michigan health and health care

Estimated Size of Grant:

Up to $25,000 per year.

Term of Contract:

The award offers up to $25,000 per year for two years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be nonprofit organizations based in Michigan.

Ineligible Applicants:
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan employees and their immediate family members are ineligible. Employees of any BCBSM affiliate and their immediate family members also are ineligible.

Ineligible Expenses:

- Administrative costs are not covered.
- The Foundation does not pay for indirect costs with the exception of limited fringe benefits.
- The following are not supported by this funding program: computer equipment, including hardware and software, unless they are directly related to the aim of the proposed project.
- Other costs that are ineligible include capital expenses.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are accepted at any time. However, applications are reviewed three times per year at the Foundation board meetings.

BCBSM will email applicants a funding decision within 10 business days of their board meetings..

*Applicants are encouraged to submit a Concept Form for feedback before submitting a full proposal.

Matching Funds:
Matching funds are required based on the size of the organization’s budget as well as the percent of Medicaid and uninsured patients served. Potential grantees should review the Matching Evaluation to know what to expect for the evaluation of your grant. See Supporting Documents.
