Grant Description

Grants to Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota nonprofit organizations working in the areas of the arts, conservation and wildlife, public broadcasting, and disaster relief to build organizational endowments. Applicants must request an invitation to apply prior to submitting a full application. Preference is given to applicants serving the Sioux City area.

The goal of an endowment grant is to promote viable endowments, with healthy board participation. The Gilchrist Foundation strives to be a significant contributor to the endowment, without becoming the main supporter of the endowment. Challenges which offer Foundation funds as matches to other funds receive preference.

Over the years, the Gilchrist Foundation has made about 55% of its total grants to endowment and capital campaigns. The Foundation also has a pattern of awarding about 45% of its total grants to the Arts, including not only the fine arts, but also cultural and historical groups

The Foundation provides incentives and funds to pre-selected non-profit organizations that further its goals, with a preference for the Sioux City area.

Pre-Application Information

Any entity wishing to apply for funding from the Foundation will need to first request an INVITATION to apply. You have the opportunity to request an invitation one of two ways: request online or via mail.

Request for Consideration for Invitation is due by April 1, 2023.

Upon approval of your request for invitation to apply for funding, you will be sent a URL link where you can download, complete, and submit your Endowment Application.

Friday, June 23, 2023, 5:00 p.m. CDT, is the application deadline for grants awarded in 2023.

Notification of decision anticipated July 15, 2023.
