US Fish and Wildlife Service - North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) and Migratory Bird Conservation Commission

Deadline Date:

08/27/21

Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants to Canada organizations for collaborative conservation projects. Funding is intended to support partnerships working on long-term projects focused on the protection, enhancement, and restoration of wetlands and habitats. Funding is intended to restore and conserve wetlands and associated upland habitats for waterfowl and other migratory birds.

Projects supported through this program will be part of a comprehensive, programmatic effort to further the goals of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA). Grant and matching funds support a wide range of conservation activities in Canada, including projects aiming to:

  • Protect, restore, or enhance wetlands and other migratory bird habitats throughout the country;
  • Permanently secure habitat for birds and other wetland-dependent species, particularly high priority waterfowl;
  • Manage wetland ecosystems and conduct complementary conservation activities such as stewardship, evaluation, and communications;
  • Encourage partnerships among public agencies and other organizations as valuable mechanisms for wetland conservation; and
  • Promote sustainable use of wetlands, waterfowl, and other wetland-dependent species.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Canada Standard Grants Program is a matching grant program that supports public-private partnerships.

Pre-Application Information:

Deadline: August 27, 2021.

NAWCA Federal funding shall not exceed 50 percent of the total cost of the Project (including only NAWCA and U.S. non-Federal match funds). At least 50% of funds used as match for a NAWCA project must be from U.S. non-Federal sources and up to 50% of match for any project may be from Canadian sources. For more information about matching requirements, see https://www.fws.gov/migratorybirds/pdf/grants/CanadianGrantStandards.pdf#page=4

Before a Recipient requests payment, verify that the organization has an active Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number and an active registration in the System for Award Management (SAM). To register, see:
- http://fedgov.dnb.com/webform
- https://www.sam.gov/portal/public/SAM/
Registrants located outside of the U.S. are required to include a NATO Commercial and Governmental Entity (NCAGE) Code on their SAM registration, or their registration will be considered incomplete. All countries outside of the U.S. need this number, not just NATO countries. The Code is a five-character ID number used extensively within U.S. federal government systems. The form and instructions can be found at: http://www.dlis.dla.mil/Forms/Form_AC135.asp

It is recommended that the JV Coordinators or provincial JV Coordinators be contacted in the first half of the calendar year with any proposed work to see if it would be considered a good fit with Provincial and Joint Venture habitat goals. The Joint Venture partnership will work to include any eligible work into the Joint Venture proposals for the funding cycle.
