Awards to Illinois educators to honor excellence in teaching environmental education and to recognize outstanding contributions to the field. Nominees may teach any subject at any grade level. These awards are ultimately intended to recognize and encourage excellence in the field of environmental education, and raise students' awareness about the importance of understanding and protecting the environment.

Award Categories:

Malcolm D. Swan Award for Outstanding Service:
The Malcolm D. Swan Award is the Association’s most prestigious honor. Presented for long-term, outstanding service and contribution to the field of environmental education in Illinois. It is intended to recognize the efforts of those people who have had a large-scale impact in the field.

Formal Educator of the Year:
Presented for outstanding, ongoing effort in infusing environmental education into their teaching. Teachers from all subjects are eligible.

Non Formal Educator of the Year:
Presented for exhibiting innovative and exemplary effort in providing environmental education opportunities for general audiences. Professional and volunteer educators who teach in non-school settings are eligible.

All award winners will receive an engraved plaque, formal acknowledgement at the EEAI Spring Conference, and 1-year paid membership to EEAI.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Malcolm D. Swan Award for Outstanding Service: Teachers or individuals that can demonstrate long-term, outstanding service and contribution to the field of environmental education in Illinois.

Formal Environmental Educator of the Year: Teachers from all subjects and grades are eligible.

Non Formal Environmental Educator of the Year: Professional and volunteer educators who teach in non-school settings are eligible (e.g. nature centers, zoos, museums, conservation or agriculture agencies, etc.).

Applicants must ensure that the nomination is postmarked or emailed by November 30, 2017.
