Grants to Minnesota school districts, community organizations, and agricultural groups to enhance rural communities and agricultural education in regions where the funding source has a business presence. In addition, scholarships are available to qualifying high school seniors who are entering college. Applications may be submitted under the following programs.

1) Elementary and Secondary Education Grant

To help ensure a strong future in rural America, CHS Prairie Lakes will be awarding multiple grants throughout the school year. Payment of the grant will be made directly to the school/department as indicated on the application.

Support is towards the advancement and development of resources, equipment, and supplies for use in the classroom. Funding provided at the local district or classroom level.

2) High School Senior Scholarship

Ensuring a strong future for agriculture is the primary goal of CHS Prairie Lakes scholarships. CHS Prairie Lakes will be awarding several scholarships to high school seniors in 2019. Payment of scholarship monies will be made jointly to the scholarship recipient and their college or university as indicated on the application.

Applicant selection will be based on academic achievement, leadership characteristics, community involvement, and their vision of the future of agriculture. Recipients are selected from the applying pool of applicants by the scholarship committee. Special consideration is given to children of CHS Prairie Lakes’ member-owners.

3) Agricultural Education Grant

To help ensure a strong future in rural America through instruction, CHS Prairie Lakes will be awarding multiple grants during the year. Payment of the grant will be made directly to the 4-H club, Extension County, FFA Chapter, or educational group as indicated on the application.

Support is targeted to assisting organizations in developing agriculture resources for their members or for hosting an educational event focused in agriculture. Funding is provided at the local, district or classroom level.

5) Returning Value to Our Local Communities

The Returning Value to Our Local Communities grant is offered to help ensure a strong future in rural America. CHS Prairie Lakes will be awarding multiple grants throughout the fiscal year of September 1, 2018 - August 31, 2019 to communities and their organizations. Payment of the grant will be made directly to the organization as indicated on the application.

Support is targeted to programs or initiatives that enhance the quality of life for farmers and rural communities. Grants are restricted to the following uses: Project or program support, technical assistance, general operating support, and equipment.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The CHS Prairie Lakes Community Funds program was established as a way to provide project funding for local schools, agricultural groups, and community organizations, along with graduating high school senior scholarships.

Elementary and Secondary Grant:
-Qualifying Public School Districts: Alexandria, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Browerville, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Melrose, Menahga, Minnewaska, Morris, Nevis, Osakis, Park Rapids, Paynesville, Sauk Centre, Sebeka, West Central Area and surrounding schools.

High School Senior Scholarship:
-Resident of the CHS Prairie Lakes trade area
-Graduating high school senior
-GPA of 3.0 or better
-Must have a designated major

Agricultural Education Application:
-Qualifying counties: Becker, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Pope, Sebeka, Stearns, Stevens, Todd, Wadena
-Qualifying Public School Districts: Alexandria, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Browerville, Cyrus, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Melrose, Menahga, Minnewaska, Morris, Nevis, Osakis, Park Rapids, Paynesville, Sauk Centre, Sebeka, West Central Area, and surrounding schools.

Returning Value to Our Local Communities:
-All awarded funds must be used for direct project or program costs.
-Applicant must reside or exist within these qualifying communities and their surrounding areas: Alexandria, Belgrade, Brooten, Browerville, Cyrus, Elrosa, Farewell, Glenwood, Greenwald, Grey Eagle, Hoffman, Kensington, Long Prairie, Lowry, Melrose, Menahga, Morris, Osakis, Park Rapids, Paynesville, Sauk Centre, Sebeka, Sedan, Starbuck, Villard Westport, and surrounding areas.

Pre-Application Information:

Each year, the Community Funds program runs quarterly, with the first application deadline occurring in October.

Deadlines:
-October 1, 2018
-January 1, 2019
-April 1, 2019
-July 1, 2019

Please note that the 2019 High School Senior Scholarship Application deadline is January 1, 2019 at 5:00 PM. Applicants should have ready the high school instructor or principal evaluation form and two (2) letters of reference before beginning.

All other applications are accepted quarterly according to the deadlines listed above.

Instructors and/or principals applying to the Elementary and Secondary Education Grant and applicants to the Agricultural Education Grant may have multiple applications during each deadline period and are encouraged to have multiple requests throughout the year.

Grant recipients must provide proof of purchase showing their purchases/expenses by August 15, 2019 before receiving the payment.

For the High School Senior scholarship, recipients must prove their enrollment before August 15, 2019 to receive funds.
