Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $2,000 to Alberta member teachers to conduct classroom research that will help improve the learning experiences of students in their care. Eligible costs include purchase of reference resources and materials, clerical and editorial support, printing and associated expenses, and costs of supply teacher for up to five days per participant as needed to support the conduct of research.

Collaborative research that is done in conjunction with a university faculty member will be allowed as long as the research question belongs to the classroom teacher.

Grant recipients shall have the remainder of the current and the next school year in which to complete funded research.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant must be a practicing teacher, and a member of ELAC prior to, and for, the duration of the research project. More information regarding membership may be found here: http://elacata.ca/join-elac

This award is not available to full-time graduate students or teachers on leave of absence, sabbatical or maternity leave.

Capital costs are not eligible for funding.

Pre-Application Information:

Interested teachers are asked to complete the following proposal and submit to the ELAC staff officer. The deadline for the receipt of proposals is November 30.

Each proposal must contain information under the following section headings:
-Title of project
-Brief description of your project
-Research questions
-Rationale for your inquiry
-Procedure and methods of data collection
-Interpretation of data
-Sharing your observations, hypotheses and findings
-Budget

A written report of the research must be submitted to the ELAC executive within 180 days of project completion. Grant recipients should be prepared to present their project at the annual ELAC Conference.
