Grant Description
Grants of up to $2,500 to South Carolina nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and faith-based organizations in eligible counties for programs that enhance K-12 education. New applicants must contact staff prior to submitting an application. Funding is intended to increase access to programs that improve and enrich education. Eligible activities take place in Horry and Georgetown Counties.

These grants focus specifically on the core subject areas of language arts, math, science, social studies, health and physical education, and the arts. Funding is available for equipment & supplies, general operating support, and special projects or programs.

Funding priority is given to proposals that include one or more of the following facets:

  • Sensitive to an emerging need
  • Address existing needs in new and imaginative ways
  • Initiation of a promising pilot
  • Designed to reduce cost and increase the efficiency of nonprofit organizations
  • Direct impact on persons with a need
  • Plans for the necessary funding to continue after the Foundation’s support has ended.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
The Community Foundation considers applications from organizations that:
- Are determined by the I.R.S. as being a public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the I.R.S. code, a government agency, or a recognized house of worship that is exempt from income tax.
- Provide programs and services to Horry and/or Georgetown counties.
- Do not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, color, sexual orientation, national/ethnic origin, or disability.

Ineligible
Applications that are in support of the following are discouraged from submitting:
- Private foundations, individuals, political or lobbying organizations
- Strictly religious purposes, including worship, instruction or recruitment
- Publication of books
- Conferences, dinners, fundraisers, or other special one-time events
- Reimbursements, including for programs that have already taken place
- Capital campaigns or endowments
- Projects that are typically the funding responsibility of federal, state or local governments

Pre-Application Information
The next Competitive Grants Cycle opens on Monday, May 1, 2023. Applications will be accepted through Friday, June 30, 2023, at 3:00 p.m.

There will be only ONE Competitive Grant Cycle in 2023.

Estimated Size of Grant
The Elsie Beavers Carver and E. Lois Carver Educational Fund awards grants up to $2,500.

Term of Contract
An organization may only be awarded one grant per fund during a 12-month period.
