Grants to South Carolina nonprofit organizations to benefit residents of Horry and Georgetown Counties. New applicants must first contact program staff before applying. Funding is available for education programs, for specific projects that address community needs, and for innovative grassroots initiatives.
Grants are available in the following categories:
Elsie Beavers Carver and E. Lois Carver Educational Fund; for Horry and Georgetown Counties
The purpose of the Carver Educational Fund is to support programs and projects in Horry and Georgetown counties that further the cause of education for children. These grants are part of the competitive grants program, and awards range from $500 to $5,000.
John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Donor Advised Fund Grants; for Horry County
To provide grants in Horry County for innovations at the local, grassroots level, thanks to funding from the Knight Foundation. Grants range from $1,000 to $50,000.
Knight invests in civic innovators who address the following funding priorities: help cities attract and keep talented people, expand economic opportunity and create a culture of engagement. Knight believes that the design of places plays an outsize role in achieving these goals.
Waccamaw Community Trust; for Horry and Georgetown Counties
The purpose of the Waccamaw Community Trust is to help fund specific projects that address a variety of needs in Georgetown and Horry County communities. Awards range from $500 to $2,500.

Applications for multi-year funding proposals for the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Donor Advised Fund Grants may be considered.
To apply for a competitive grant, your organization must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must be nonprofit organizations with 501(c)3 designation.
- Programs/projects must serve Horry and/or Georgetown Counties only.
If you are a recipient of a previous grant from Waccamaw Community Foundation, the following conditions must be satisfied for a new application to be considered:
- One full year must have passed from your most recent successful grant.
- All funds from your last award must be spent before submitting a new application.
- A Status Report from your last grant must be completed and submitted to email@example.com.
Applications are accepted for the competitive grants in the second and fourth quarter of each year.
The next competitive grant cycle opens on June 4, with a deadline of July 16.

The deadline for the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Donor Advised Fund Grants is rolling. To be considered, please submit a short project description (1-page or less) to Kristen Bitzegaio for consideration. Description must clearly explain the connection to the Knight Foundation’s funding priorities, listed above, or the project will not be considered further. Applications for multi-year funding proposals may be considered.
