Grant Description
Grants of up to $60,000 to Tennessee nonprofit organizations in eligible regions for operational expenditures. Funding is intended to provide unrestricted support to organizations offering compassionate health services to underserved populations. Eligible organizations must have a physical location in the 40 counties of Middle Tennessee.

All grant proposals should display and emphasize respect for the dignity of all persons. Applying organizations must have sustainable programs that fit into one or more of the Healing Trust's areas of interest and provide direct clinical services:*

  1. Physical Health (Must provide direct clinical services, caregiver support, or health system navigation through the Get Covered TN initiative to apply under physical health)
  2. Mental Health
  3. Recovery from Substance Abuse
  4. Healing from Abuse, Neglect, or Violence

*Direct clinical services are services that are provided to clients by medical professionals.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Grants are only made to non-profit organizations with locations in Middle Tennessee that have been in operation as a 501(c)(3) for at least one year and that operate health-related programs that produce measurable health outcomes or advocate for healthcare access. Applying organizations must also have operating expenses of less than $20 million and the majority of the organization’s programs must be health-focused. Additionally, the organization must serve clients that have limited access to resources and have at least one year of financial statements. The Trust will consider agencies using a fiscal agent on a case-by-case basis. National organizations must have a Tennessee-based board, separate financial statements (including a 990 or an audit), and a location in Middle Tennessee in order to be eligible to apply.

The Trust does not fund:

- Capital projects: purchase, construction, or renovation of facilities
- Individuals and fraternal organizations
- Other grant-making organizations
- Organizations that have discriminatory policies or practices
- Partisan politics, political lobbying, or electoral campaigns
- Single disease, research-oriented organizations
- Organizations whose purpose is to raise money for another nonprofit
- National organizations without Middle TN based staff, board, and independent financials.

All proposals are due by 4 p.m. on the day of the deadline.

Applicants must have a completed profile on GivingMatters™ by the deadline.

Grant proposals will be accepted and reviewed on a quarterly basis. Applicants are allowed to apply only twice per year (i.e., if an applicant is not awarded a grant the first time that they apply, they may make one more application attempt within a 12 month period.)

Estimated Size of Grant
Request amounts must follow the guidelines based on the size of the agency’s budget (operating expenses) for the most current budget year. If your organizational budget is less than $35,000, please contact a member of the program team to discuss potential funding.

2021 Request Amounts:

- Agency budget size: $35,000 – $299,999
Max request amount: $20,000

- Agency budget size: $300,000 – $999,999
Max request amount: $40,000

- Agency budget size: $1,000,000 - $1,999,999
Max request amount: $50,000

- Agency budget size: $2,000,000 and above
Max request amount: $60,000

Term of Contract
Grants are awarded for one-year terms.
