Grants of up to $1,500 to North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia nonprofit organizations in eligible areas for capacity building, programming, and operating support, including operating costs or programmatic changes due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Eligible applicants operate within Truliant's service areas. Funding is intended for organizations that focus on community development, economic mobility, financial wellness, and youth and education.

This year, emphasis is placed on organizations that improve the communities through the following initiatives:

  • Community Development – organizations that cultivate relationships, social responsibility, civic engagement and collaboration that build community
  • Economic Mobility – organizations providing personal guidance and activities that build financial stability and social prosperity for individuals and their families;
  • Financial Wellness – organizations that are specifically engaged in activities that promote and improve financial inclusion and financial literacy; and
  • Youth and Education – organizations supporting education and programming for grades pre-K through high school.

Eligible applicants provide important services in the following cities and/or counties where Truliant operates:

  • Piedmont Triad, North Carolina - including Alamance, Forsyth, Guilford and Randolph counties
  • Charlotte Metro Area, North Carolina - including Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston and Mecklenburg counties
  • Greenville, South Carolina
  • Radford, Virginia - including Pulaski county
  • Wytheville, Virginia - including Wythe county

Estimated Size of Grant:

Truliant's Community Mini Grant program provides funding up to $1,500.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have been in existence for a minimum of three (3) years and have tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Consideration will not be given to individuals, political candidates or groups, religious schools or churches, and organizations that do not serve the cities/counties listed above.

Pre-Application Information:

The application period for 2021 will open on May 1, 2021. The 2021 deadline to receive applications is 11:59 PM on Monday, May 31, 2021.

Due to COVID-19, the process for the Community Mini Grants has been streamlined this year. The Credit Union will be deciding these grants internally and in a much faster timeframe, in an effort to get funds out to the nonprofit organizations who need it most. The application has been shortened, and the Credit Union has also loosened restrictions so that it can review requests for operating costs or programmatic changes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
