09/01/17 - Deadline for nominations for the Arthur Kingsley Porter Prize, Art Journal Awards, and Distinguished Awards
Awards to USA, Canada, and International individual artists, art historians, authors, curators, and critics for outstanding contributions in their individual disciplines. The recipients will have encouraged excellence in teaching, scholarship, practice, and connoisseurship of the arts.
Publications Awards are for authors of books or articles/criticism published between September 1, 2016, and August 31, 2017. Books published posthumously are not eligible. Categories for these awards include:
- Charles Rufus Morey Book Award for non-catalogue books in the history of art
- Alfred H. Barr Jr. Award for museum scholarship in the history of art
- Alfred H. Barr Jr. Award for Smaller Museums, Libraries, Collections, and Exhibitions for museum scholarship in the history of art published by smaller institutions
- Frank Jewett Mather Award for art criticism
- Arthur Kingsley Porter Prize for articles written by younger scholars in the Art Bulletin
- Art Journal Award for articles or works published in the Art Journal
Distinguished Awards are given to professionals in a number of art fields who have been nominated by others to receive recognition for their work. Categories for these awards include:
- Distinguished Teaching of Art Award
- Distinguished Teaching of Art History Award
- Artist Award for Distinguished Body of Work
- Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement
- Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award for Writing on Art
- Distinguished Feminist Award
- CAA/American Institute for Conservation Award for Distinction in Scholarship and Conservation Award
The 2018 Awards for Distinction will be announced at the 106th Annual Conference in Los Angeles between February 21–24, 2018.

Individual artists, art historians, authors, curators, and critics are welcome to apply.
For the Alfred H. Barr Jr. Award for Smaller Museums, Libraries, Collections, and Exhibitions awards, institutions must demonstrate that they have an annual operating budget of less than $10 million.
Publishers may submit no more than three titles for any given award. Publishers may not submit the same title for the Morey and Barr awards (The Morey jury does not accept exhibition catalogues; the Barr award is specifically for museum/library/archive/gallery catalogues). Works published posthumously are not eligible.

Nominations for the Arthur Kingsley Porter and Art Journal awards are for works published within the last year. These nominations are due September 1, 2017. To give the jury full opportunity to evaluate each submission fairly, submit materials well before the deadline.
All Distinguished Awards nominations are due September 1, 2017.
