Estimated Size of Grant:

Operating funding in the program generally ranges from $14,000 to $70,000 (per year).

Term of Contract:

First-time applicants are eligible for single-year funding, and previous grantees that meet the additional eligibility criteria for multi-year grants are eligible for multi-year funding.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for operating funding through this program, literary organizations must:

- Be an Ontario nonprofit corporation;

OR

- Be a federal not-for-profit corporation (with the exception of book and magazine publishers) with the head office in Ontario;
- Be led by professional personnel;
- Have completed at least two years of sustained, regular, ongoing programming in its community as of the application date (an organization that does not meet this requirement may instead apply for project funding);
- Have a range of revenue sources such as private and government;
- Be governed by a board of directors or an advisory body solely responsible for the organization;
- Have community support and involvement demonstrated through one or more of the following: membership, fundraising and volunteer involvement;
- Have proof of sound financial management;
- Submit verification of financial results of the last completed fiscal year with their applications. The type of financial statement required depends on the amount of your grant request and the size of your annual budget, as follows:
* Over $30,000, for all revenue levels: audited financial statement
* Requests $10,001-$30,000: review engagement (or, if available, audited financial statements)
* Requests $10,000 and under, for organizations with revenues $100,000 or over: review engagement (or, if available, audited financial statement)
* Requests $10,000 and under, for organizations with revenues under $100,000: unaudited financial statement (or, if available, review engagement or audited financial statement). Unaudited financial statements must be prepared using the format of the CADAC accounting template, which is to be found at http://www.thecadac.ca/cms/en/guides.html, along with a guide to its use.

If you do not provide the type of financial statement required, OAC will reduce your grant request to an eligible level.

For first-time applicants only: There is an additional eligibility requirement to have at least $75,000 in total revenues for the last completed year, and in projected revenues for the current and request years.

Multi-Year Funding Eligibility Requirements:

Your organization must have:
- Received operating funding from the OAC for the past two consecutive years
- A three-year plan
- Stable artistic, organizational and board leadership with plans in place for any transition
- A balanced budget
- An accumulated deficit no greater than 10% of last year’s budget or an unrestricted net asset deficiency no greater than 25%, or a deficit-retirement plan that reduces the accumulated deficit over the next three years if the organization has a deficit over 10% or an unrestricted net asset deficiency in excess of 25%.

You must apply for multi-year funding if you meet the above multi-year eligibility criteria.

Annual Applicant Eligibility:

Only the following organizations are eligible for annual operating grants:
- First time applicants to the operating program;
- Organizations admitted to the operating program as new applicants in the last two years;
- Organizations that have received a reduction to their OAC funding as a result of last year’s assessment by an advisory panel.

In the case of an organization in substantial flux, the applicant may be moved from the multi-year stream to annual by the OAC to be assessed by an advisory panel.

NOT ELIGIBLE:
- Organizations whose reports for previously awarded OAC grants are overdue or incomplete
- Incorporated not-for-profit non-arts organizations
- Universities or colleges
