Grants of up to $15,000 to Illinois nonprofit organizations and government agencies in eligible areas for programs and services that benefit local residents and address needs related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Funding is intended to support projects and activities within the focus areas of community development, education, and capacity building. Eligible programs benefit the residents of the Peoria Area. Grants support new or existing programs.

For 2020, the Community Needs grants will also be addressing the following issues related to COVID-19:

  • Interim housing and shelter
  • Primary health care services
  • Utility assistance (organizations providing utility support to individuals)
  • Support for children and vulnerable populations.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Organizations can apply for up to $15,000.

Term of Contract:

Funds must be used from October 2020 to September 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The grant is open to all organizations with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, those that operate under a fiscal agent that is a 501(c)(3) organization, and to local units of local, county, state or federal government.

The program must be operated and organized in such a manner that no applicable anti-discrimination laws are violated.

Grants will be made to organizations with programs serving individuals within CFCI’s service area of a 50-mile radius surrounding Peoria, IL excluding Knox and McLean Counties.

CFCI does not fund:
- Annual / Capital campaigns
- Individuals
- Endowments
- Sectarian religious purposes: Faith-based organizations and churches are eligible if the program serves the community.

Pre-Application Information:

This funding opportunity opens on August 3, 2020. Applications are due by September 2, 2020, at 11:59 PM CDT.

Please note, if the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, applications will be accepted the next business day until midnight.

Applicants are highly encouraged to submit applications at least 2 weeks in advance and to call CFCI’s office to verify all required materials have been received prior to the deadline.

Applications will not be accepted after the deadline. Applications missing the required materials will be considered incomplete. There will be no exceptions.

The grant review process may last 30-60 days after the submission deadline. CFCI reserves the right to shorten or extend the process at any time.
