The Herb Society of America (HSA)
Grants of up to $5,000 to USA individuals and students for research pertaining to the historical use of herbs in a scientific, horticultural, or social context. Funding is intended to support short-term, small, self-contained research projects. For the purposes of this research, herb must be defined as historically useful for flavoring, medicine, ornament, economic, industrial, or cosmetic purposes. One paper about the project results must be submitted for use in a HSA publication.
Allowable costs include:
- Compensation for investigators
- Professional and technical assistance
- Research supplies and materials
- Costs of computer time

The Grant is for a period of work not to exceed one year.
Eligible applicants may be students, professionals, or individuals. Grant recipients will be required to sign a Grant Acceptance Form prior to the award of a grant. Only U.S. residents may apply.
This grant is not intended for indirect costs such as:
- Equipment including but not limited to computer, laboratory or office equipment
- Tuition, textbooks, or conference attendance
- Private garden development
- Travel to and/or from research site(s)
